This crocheted temperature blanket was inspired by the traditional card game Hanafuda. The forty-eight cards in the deck are divided into twelve months, with each month represented by a specific plant. The blanket is made with twelve panels, each depicting the plant of that month. You will be using a modified puff stitch to create the plant pattern.

As a temperature blanket, the specific yardage used for each color will depend on how many colors you choose and the temperature you decide to depict on your blanket. There are three color schemes you can choose from (or make up your own!):

  1. Beginner friendly: No color change within a row. Choose either the high or the low and use the color corresponding to the daily temperature
  2. High/low: Each row depicted with one or two colors, with the background and pattern colors corresponding to the high and low temperature of that day (you can choose which is the high and which is the low).
  3. Consistent pattern color: The flower pattern for each month is crocheted in a single color, and the background color corresponds to the daily temperature.
