Hands
About Hands:
In this time of self-isolation I’ve found it particularly difficult to start a project and see it through. Hands is a garment I envisioned in my head with a preoccupation for togetherness and apartness at the for front of my imagination. I was so curious as to how I would figure out the construction I ended up following through with it all the way to the end. I am super pleased with the finished project and how it invokes feelings of separation.
Hands has a unique construction with the front panels/yoke being worked first and then the body being attached gradually using construction inspired by a raglan sweater. All of the colour work and short-rows are worked in the first U-shaped panel. This piece can be knit to a variety of lengths. It is a versatile statement piece. Hands is knit with a slight crop and three quarter sleeves and is a great layering piece. Worn in size 6 on a me with a 34” bust with 5 inches of positive ease.
Yarn and Yardage:
MC (Miel): 900 (950, 1000, 1100, 1200, 1300, 1450)yards
CC (Natural): 100 (100, 150, 150, 150, 200, 200)yards
I used Julie Asselin’s Nurtured (130yds/56g) This yarn is milled to promote the development of Rambouillet, Targheen and Merino in North America. This yarn is next-to-skin soft while still having the structure of a gently processed wool. I would recommend any worsted to aran weight wool yarn for this project.
