Handspun, Handwoven Vest without a Loom
by Lee Juvan
This pattern includes directions for making a simple plywood loom from a precut piece of plywood and finishing nails. The vest is woven with handspun yarn using a tapestry needle and hair pick and is finished by crocheting shoulder shaping and edging in a lighter weight handspun yarn. (I’ve listed it under “crochet” because there is no category for mixed patterns or weaving patterns at present.) Only one size is included: 38 inches around (women’s small/medium). Yarn amounts expressed in weight: approximately 17 ounces superbulky spun at 200 yards per pound and about 2 ounces spun at 350 yards per pound for trim. Both yarns are singles. No previous weaving experience required.
