This pinafore is designed to maximize the yardage and accentuate the beauty of handspun or otherwise extraordinary yarns. With its sleeveless yoke and a-line lace body, it makes the most of a small amount of yarn. Undulating waves and graduating garter ridges highlight the unique textures and long color transitions often found in handspun and artisan dyed yarns.

Instructions are given for five sizes from ages 1-12 and include options for contrasting yoke and hem, 2 yoke styles, and 3 closure styles (button loop tutorial provided).

This pattern is easily worked by an advanced beginner and is a simple first lace project. It is also an ideal project for a circular needle with interchangeable tips. You will be surprised by how much fun it is to knit and how quickly it goes.

Finished Measurements
Chest: 22 ½ (24½, 27, 30, 31½)“
Length: 14 (15½, 17, 18½, 20)”

Materials
Yarn: In 8-10 wpi or worsted to aran weight yarn you will need approximately 260 (300, 345, 395, 450) or 235 (270, 310, 355, 405) meters. If you choose a contrasting color for the yoke and hem it should be about 20% of your total yardage.

Needles: 30” or longer circular needles in US sizes 8 (5mm), 9 (5.5mm), 10 (6mm), 10½ (6.5mm), & 11 (8mm) (or size required to obtain gauge and needles in each of the next four sizes). This is an ideal project for a circular needle with interchangeable tips.

Notions: Scrap yarn or stitch holders, darning needle, closure for the neck (your choice of a button, clasp, or tie), optional stitch markers for lace work – if you choose to use them, you will need 9 (9, 10, 11, 8) markers.
