When I was in high school, my Grandma gave me some handknit wash cloths and a handtowel for my hope chest. My beloved towel has been hanging off the oven handle in many kitchens, and I couldn’t find any replacements that I liked. So I made a copy of hers and then made a simplified version. So if you’re just looking for a quick, satisfying, and practical knit, this is for you!

This is knit on the bias, which makes a great texture for this hand-towel.
Gauge is not critical here, and neither is blocking. I got 2 towels from a ball of the Caron cotton cakes, and the cotton version I made is 55g where I needed a few meters from the next ball.
This pattern uses a button, which is size-flexible. I recommend between 12-19mm (1/2-3/4”) - if you’ve got spare buttons this would be a great use for them.

This is a written pattern and the two versions are more clearly laid out with the March 2021 update.

If you use DK, you need a little more yardage than a worsted. There is flexibility in the pattern, depending on what size you want your finished product to be.

Happy knitting!
