If you can knit, purl, slip a stitch, and knit in-the-round, then you have what it takes to knit the Happiness Runs Hat. Everyone will think your work required advanced knitting skills, but this is a fast and easy beginner’s knit.

You will knit your hat in one piece, with no picking up stitches after the brim. Bonus: the slipped stitches offer insulation for extra warmth.

Lee’s Invisible Rib Brim hides a rib stitch, so the brim has the elasticity of rib stitches without looking like them. The thickness of the brim flatters all head shapes, and it hugs the ears, so the hat stays in place in the wind.

Supplies:

120 - 137 yards chunky or bulky yarn, shown here in Knit Picks Wool of the Andes™ Superwash Bulky, in Persimmon Heather

U.S. 10 circular knitting needle(s), in your preferred style for knitting in-the-round

A ruler and (optional) soft tape measure

A stitch marker to mark the end of a round

A tapestry needle for weaving in ends

(Optional) Needle protectors, so you can try on your hat as you go. Gauge: 4sts = 1” in width, measured in-the-round, in stockinet stitch (knit all stitches). This hat has a lot of stretch and will stretch to fit most.

What you need to know: How to cast on using a long-tail cast on (or any stretchy cast on). How to knit and decrease in-the-round down to a few stitches; how to purl; how to slip a stitch; how to knit 2 stitches together; how to weave in ends; and how to block (blocking is optional, as explained in the pattern).
