I like knitting blankets:)) I enjoy the unbroken rhythm; no shaping or seams, only even rows, back and forth, back and forth. I come into what I can describe as a “Happy Flow”, it is a peaceful feeling where my thoughts can run into all directions, (or I can watch the television:).
Another thing that I like is that knitting a blanket is so flexible: it could be worked to desired length and it doesn’t matter that much if the gauge is a little bit off.
“Happy Flow” is a rectangular blanket, worked from one short side to another. The centered wave-pattern is easier to work than you might think! It is worked without a cable needle, so the knitting is rather fast. To make a smaller or larger blanket you might subtract or add repeats of the “stripe-pattern” of the sides. A border of single moss-sts runs around the entire edge of the blanket.
The sample measures 95cm/37.5” wide, 115cm/45” long.
If you want to work to exact measurements the gauge should be 26sts and 32 rows = 10x10cm/4x4” in single moss-stitch pattern.
Material I used a DK weight alpaca from Iloyarn (Superfine 3/6) to work the blanket. This yarn comes in balls of 100gr/3.53oz and 218yards/199m. You will need 8 balls to work the size of the sample.
Needles: a long circular needle in the size to obtain gauge. Size 3.5mm/US4 is a suggestion only.
Knitting skills the abbreviations used are k, p, k1tbl, p1tbl, ssk, k2tog, m1l, m1r. Average skills are needed, but I think that an adventurous beginner could work the blanket:)
