Happy Hippy Hat
I designed this hat when a friend who is a self-described hippy requested a “purple alpaca hat.” This hat is worked in 6 wedges and then sewn together, making for less entanglement of the very sticky yarn than if all the colors were being worked at once. If you have a lot of patience, the pieces could be knitted flat together or in the round, just keep in mind that there’s a 1 stitch selvedge. The suri alpaca yarn is exceptionally warm but also very lightweight, so the tie is included to keep it on your head if a gust of wind comes up. The intarsia pattern is simple, but the yarn keeps the knitting interesting.
For the example shown, one flower is worked in each of the color combinations possible as listed in Table 1. I also alternated Chart A and Chart B between each panel but the entire hat could be worked using only one of the charts. There is a lot of leftover yarn in each of the colors, so if you’re doing the flowers all in the same colors, one ball of each should be more than sufficient.
Sized for heads measuring 2123, 25 inches 53.558.5, 63.5 cm in circumference.
