Happy Little Orchard Collection - Cowl
Use the code ORCHARD25 to get 25% off when buying both the Hat and Cowl pattern from this collection.
My 2022 autumn collection, inspired by the changing colours of the trees as we pass through from summer to winter. This pattern comes with full written instructions and colourwork charts for both a 4 and 3 colour version of this design.
The 4 colour sample fully embraces an autumnal colour palette, however, it was also pointed out that this design looks like lolly-pops so the 3 colour version has been knit in a Neapolitan colour palette to reflect this.
The Happy Little Orchard Collection is currently made up of two patterns: A hat and a cowl
Construction
Knit bottom up in the round using a two-stranded colourwork knitting technique, with a ribbed brim and neck.
Sizes
Child (Adult)
Measurements
Circumference: approx. 50 (61) cm / 19.75 (24)“
Length: approx. 28 (40) cm / 11 (15.75)”

Aran weight yarn in 3 or 4 colours.
4 colour samples made in Cascade 220 Heathers (200m/100g) in colours Lake Chelan (9451), Birch (9564), Turtle (2452) and Pumpkin Spice (2453).
3 colour sample made in Drops Nepal (75m/50g) in colours Camel Mix, Light Beige Mix and Blush.
(sample in this yarn was knit on recommended needles, but some testers found that they had to drop by 0.5mm to meet gauge requirements when using this yarn).
Yardage
Approx. total weight/meterage/yardage – 96g/192m/ 210yrds 145g/290m/318yds

For a truly scrappy version of this cowl each ribbing section use approx. 14(18)g /28(36)m of yarn and one repeat of trees approx. 8(10)g /16(20)m.
If you fancy knitting this cowl longer than given measurements, please allow for this in your yarn requirements.
Needles
4.5mm and 5.5mm / size 7 and size 9, 60cm circular needles, or needles to obtain gauge.
Gauge
17 sts x 17 rounds = 10x10cm / 4x4 inches in charted stockinette stitch in the round, blocked - though this is not too important for this pattern.
Notions
Tapestry needle, 1 stitch marker, scissors.
Skills Used
Cast on, ribbing, stranded colourwork.
