Happy New Hat
In the beginning of the year, I have enjoyed designing and knitting the Happy New Hat. It’s so fun working the Fair Isle, every round make me want to work one more, and one more…
Leaves and roses in combination, to me that’s a great way of starting a new year.
The Happy New Hat is worked bottom-up and in the round.
Sizes
SMALL: suitable for a child, or small womans head: circumference 45 cm/17.75” MEDIUM: suitable for a womans head (not too small): circumference 50 cm/19.75” LARGE: suitable for a large womans/mans head: circumference 55 cm/21.5”
Materials
Yarn: I recommend a fingering (or even a Sport) weight yarn that works up to gauge. The sample is worked using Biches et Buches ”Le petit Lambswool”. This fingering weight yarn comes in balls (and sometimes skeins) of 50 gr/1.76 oz and 248 m/271 yards. You will need the following amount of this specific yarn to work the hat
MC – main colour: dark green grey/vert gris foncé: 130/145/160 m = 142/160/175 yards CC1 – contrasting colour 1: medium green grey/vert gris moyen, less than 45 m/50 yards CC2 – contrasting colour 2: medium grey brown/gris brun moyen, less than 15 m/17 yards CC3 – contrasting colour 3: light grey/gris clair, less than 30 m/33 yards CC4 – contrasting colour 4: soft pink grey/rose gris doux, less than 15 m/17 yards
You may of course use your scraps and pieces, too.
Needles Circular needle, 40 cm/16”, size 3 mm/US2.5. Set of DPNS, size 3 mm/US2.5 to work the crown.
