This pattern gives the instructions for making one spherical plush toy, about 6-7cm in diameter. Instructions may be repeated to make multiple.

The pattern works by knitting a hemisphere from the equator to the pole, unravelling the cast-on, picking up the released stitches and knitting another hemisphere in the other direction.

The spherical shape of the spud is supported by a foam ball inserted inside part-way through closing the back of the sphere. I used a foam ball rather than conventional stuffing because it would hold its shape without stretching the knitting.

Materials:
• 1 quartet of 4mm double-pointed needles
• 1 wool needle
• 8 ply main colour yarn (approx. 10g/27m per spud)
• 8 ply secondary colour yarn (for mouth) (approx. 20-30cm per spud)
• Buttons (for eyes) (2 per spud)
• Sewing thread suitable to buttons
• Sewing needle suitable to thread and buttons
• 6cm-diameter squishy foam balls for interior stuffing of spuds (1 per spud)
