The bonnet is knit in a technique that is called Brioche. I have tried to simplify it without using any confusing and brioche-specific terms, that way even those who aren’t familiar with brioche knitting can knit their own Happy Trees bonnet.
You will have to use two colors here – I have called one main color (that is darker green in my photos) and contrasting color (lighter green in my photos).
You will also need a CIRCULAR needle – you have to be able to knit from the both ends of it and to slide the knit to the other end of the needle now and then.
If you are feeling adventurous, you can actually make this bonnet reversible. I think it looks lovely from the wrong side too. I have added brief instruction on how to finish it so it is reversible.
Gauge: 21 sts in 10cm/4 in in stockinette stitch
