Harbour Taxi is a small asymmetrical shawl, that is knitted on the bias with a single skein or ball of a fingering weight yarn. The knitting starts with just a few stitches and grows into a slightly curved triangular shape using the increases along the edge of the knitted fabric. The shawl is finished with a lace border in a popular Old Shale stitch pattern.

Stripes of garter stitch and rows of eyelet stitch patterns alternate with a section of triangles worked with a short row knitting technique and sections of a wavy lace stitch pattern.

  • The stitch patterns are charted and written out. The short row knitting sections are written out row-by-row.

This shawl was specifically designed with a gradient yarn in mind for effortless colour transitions while playing with short rows and wavy lace patterns. Other types of yarns, such as tonal, variegated or ombre yarns, or even gradient sock sets, can also work for this textured and lace stitch shawl project.

Finished measurements
Depth x Width (approx., blocked)
18 x 55 inches / 46 x 140 cm

Recommended yarn
To ensure that the fabric holds its shape after blocking, choose yarns made from natural fibers or blends. Knitting and blocking a gauge sample will help you choose the yarn and needle size that will work best with the yarn of your choice.

Skill level - Intermediate
