Modern definition for Capote - A long cloak or coat with a hood, typically part of an army or company uniform. I left “Capote” as part of the name to preserve the historical connection.

The Capote pictured in Weldon’s Practical Crochet is a hooded, shallow shawl. The pattern is as faithful as possible to the vintage instructions. The hood has been made slightly larger and the edges smoothed to give a nicer appearance. The hooded capote is rated as experienced because of the shaping. The version with the collar or with neither hood nor collar is rated easy.
