Harmony Mittens
These mittens were designed using Bartlettyarns’ 2-ply worsted. Bartlettyarns of Harmony, Maine, is a company that has been producing yarn since 1821.
The pattern name also has to do with the thumb gusset which lines up in “harmony” with the life line in the palm of your hand. Without compromising the fit of the mitten, this pattern’s thumb gusset may be the easiest one you can do because it increases only one stitch in the same place every row. This makes it easy to keep track of increasing. All four mitten options are included in the pattern: plain, two cable designs, a charted heart design, plus a blank piece of knitting graph paper to chart your own design!
To make a dense mitten (to keep out the cold air and keep hands warmer), use a heavy worsted or an aran weight yarn that can be knit to a tighter gauge. You will need approximately 140 yards.
This was Fiber of Maine’s subscription offering for September 2016. The pattern will be for sale on November 1.
