This pattern in Damask knitting originates from a nightshirt in cotton from Harplinge, Sweden belonging to Nordiska Museet, Stockholm, the original nightshirt shirt is dated 1750-69. Making the pattern stand out, the pullover is worked tightly; the stated gauge will be difficult to achieve with a thicker yarn.
The baby pullover is worked in the round bottom-up, beginning with a split hem, at the yoke the pullover is divided into front and back. The sleeves are worked in the round bottom-up until the last rows which are worked back and forth. Front and back pieces are grafted together at the shoulders and the sleeves are sewn in.
In addition to the pattern with stars and diamonds there are details formerly used for the old, knitted pullovers. A particular detail is the Twined Row following the cast-on, which enhances the edge.
