Pay What You Choose: In the interest of making my patterns financially accessible to all knitters while still honouring the time and work that went into creating them, I’m including ‘Pay What You Choose’ tiered pricing for my patterns. You may notice an increase in the baseline price; that is because I believe it represents a fair amount of compensation for my time and craft. If you can afford the full price, I am glad; if you cannot, please choose a price you are willing to pay, no questions asked. Tiered pricing works on the honour system and I will never know your financial ability, but I would very much like designing knitting patterns to be sustainable for me. Here is a list of the coupon codes and the discounts they represent:
No Code: $9.00 CAD
Orchestra: 10% off
BoxSeats: 20% off
Mezzanine: 30% off
A sideways-knit, reversible brioche hat, featuring my new technique: brioche short rows! The stitch columns make concentric rings around the hat all the way up to the crown, and the short rows are invisible and so easy to do. Marianated Yarns handdyed yarn is so perfect for this hat; the gorgeous colour pooling runs perpendicular to the brioche columns and you can see ghosts of the pooling on the solid colour side. It is easy to custom size the brim of this hat, since the repeats are small; it is designed to be slouchy on an adult-sized head, but if you want it more snug, or are knitting for a tiny human, reduce the number of stitches and it will be shorter.
To knit this hat, you will need:
Approximately 200 meters/218 yards Marianated Yarns Playtime DK in 2 colours (100 meters/109 yards in a main colour and the same in a contrast; I used ‘Raspberry Lime Rickey’ as colour 1 and ‘Forest Through the Trees’ as colour 2)
3.25 mm circular needles (size 3 US) or size to obtain gauge
Crochet hook
Waste yarn
Tapestry needle
Gauge:
24 stitches and 24 rows= 10 cm/4 inches in brioche stitch on 3.25 mm needles
Sizes:
Brim size is determined by row gauge and by
how many repeats you work. Height is
determined by how many sts you cast on; the
sample is 21.5 cm/8.5 inches.
Required Skills:
Provisional cast on, brioche stitch, brioche
decreases, brioche increases, brioche short
rows, grafting brioche stitch
Notes:
Most of the required skills are written into the
instructions, with the exception of provisional
cast on. I’ve included a link with pictures to
help with grafting.
