Harry Potter Blanket
This is just a chart, not a pattern!
This is a color changing afghan based on a photograph of Harry Potter from the cover of Empire Magazine (August 2008). It was developed using Photoshop and KnitPro 2.0 which is a free graphing website online.
When I started using the graph pattern for this afghan, I doubled it meaning I used double crochets (for double the height) and two stitches per square on the pattern. A little confusing at first but before you know it, you don’t need to think about it at all. You can make this a lap blanket by doing one stitch per square and using single crochet.
I carried the colors upward instead of tying off every time I changed colors; it will make your life easier when you do intricate portions like the eye. I finished it off with a row of double crochet around all the edges.
This blanket uses approximately:
5.75 skeins of Black
3.75 skeins of White
2 skeins Light Gray
1.5 skeins Heather Gray
If you have any questions about this pattern (or the level of insanity I reached before, during, and after I’d finished), feel free to email me and I’ll try and help you out as best I can!
It is important to note that if you do decide to make a giant Harry blanket for you or yours, it may not look the same as mine. The colors on the graph are not very distinct in some places so some squares you get to choose whether you want it to be, say, dark gray or light gray. Feel free to omit things as well! It’s your blanket - make it your own!
