NOTE: I’m a small designer and it’s tricky to find the audience necessary for a good testing. I’ve given this knitting pattern my all, but I want to make sure it’s perfect for you! For now, I’m offering it for free, and any feedback you can provide would be incredibly valuable. If you’re interested in more, follow me on Instagram at @knitting_with_calm. It’s a small step that supports my journey and allows you to stay updated on my work. Thanks for understanding, and happy knitting!

The Harvard Slipover is a stylish and versatile vest that is perfect for layering on any day. The top-down seamless construction and some neck and shoulder shaping make it a pattern for intermediate knitters. It is both fun to knit and comfortable to wear. The body is knitted in a Fisherman’s rib pattern with two strands of light fingering and lace yarn held together, creating a lightweight and airy fabric that is perfect for transitional weather.

The ribbing is knitted in a sporty yarn with a contrasting color, giving the vest a classic “college” look. Whether you’re heading to class or running errands, the Harvard Slipover is a must-have for any wardrobe.

First the back is knitted with neck shaping, and increases for the arms, then the shoulders are picked up and shaped with German short rows. The V neck and arm increases are then worked and finally both front and back are joined to continue knitting in the round until the ribbing.

Once the body is finished, stitches are picked up along the neck and armholes for the final ribbings.

SIZES:
Full chest of finished sweater with 6-12cm positive ease:

82-94-107-120-132-144-156-168-180-192cm

Materials needed:
Yarn A and B are held together.
YARN A: 400,450,500,550,600,650,700,750,800,850 m of Brushed Alpaca silk (25g/140m) by Drops in color beige or any lightweight fingering yarn.
YARN B: 400,450,500,550,600,650,700,750,800,850 m Soft silk mohair (25g/225m) by KFO in color soft rose or any lace yarn.

TOTAL m of yarn A and B combined:
800,900,1000,1100,1200,1300,1400,1500,1600,1700 m

You can substitute Yarn A for 2 strands of mohair, ( you will be knitting with 3 strands of mohair in total). I do not recommend using any merino/wool/cotton yarn as the slipover will be too heavy and it will stretch a lot. I recommend using any brushed alpaca, brushed cashmere, mohair or similar lightweight fluffy yarns.

Ribbing:
MC: 120,140,165,200,260,285,320,350,370,390 m of Katia 100% merino (50g/165m) in color 43 or any sports/dk yarn.
CC: 60, 70, 75, 80, 100 120, 140, 160, 175, 190m of rowan alpaca soft dk (50g / 125m) in color 212 or any sports/dk yarn.

Needles:
6mm needles or the equivalent to obtain a gauge of 11 st 11 rows in fishermans rib worked flat (1010cm)
3.5mm needles for ribbings.

Gauge:
(10cm10cm) = 11 st11 rows* in fishermans rib worked flat with 6mm needles
11 rows in fishermans rib is equal to knitting 22 rows.
