Harvest Fruit & Veg Blanket
This pattern in overlay mosaic crochet is for a rainbow of fruit and vegetables - I used them to make a colourful baby blanket and a mug rug. There are ten different fruit & veg patterns which all repeat every 21 or 14 stitches. All include a chart (with drop-down stitches marked) and row-by-row written instructions.
This pattern has two versions - one with slightly more complex ‘special’ mosaic crochet stitches which create a more realistic look with curved edges. And another made in the classic mosaic crochet style with just single and double crochet stitches. The designs included are for: carrots, apples, beetroot, grapes, pears, sweetcorn, strawberries, oranges, lemon/ lime and pumpkin.
Either pattern would be suitable for someone who is intermediate at crochet, particularly if you have done some mosaic crochet before. There is a separate photo guide to all the special stitches and a link to a video tutorial which shows each special stitch (using the apple as a demonstration). The sweetcorn design has a few rows which use tapestry crochet techniques with some photos/ links to help but you can of course skip this one if desired.
Please note I use US crochet terminology throughout and the written instructions/ video for the special stitches are focused on right-handed crocheters - but if you are left-handed and can read a chart these are designed to be used in either direction.
I give basic guidance for making a baby blanket, but the repeated mosaic patterns could also be used for a larger blanket for a keen gardener, a cushion, table runner or wall hanging, or small projects like mug rugs and pencil cases amongst many other possibilities.
For my baby blanket size (35x35”) project, I used approximately 600g / 1950yards of Stylecraft Special DK.
