After the heat of a late summer day, the Harvest Moon rises fat and red over fields of ripening wheat. This the busiest time of the year for farmers, for the light of the Harvest Moon is unusually bright, allowing workers to toil late into the night to ensure all the harvest is in before October’s frost.

The Harvest Moon shawl is a crescent-shaped shawl worked from the top down. It features a gathered stitch pattern for the body, and the Irish Mesh lace pattern for the border, calling to mind sheaves of wheat, baskets of apples, and the satisfaction of bringing in the bounty of a good harvest. In 2016, the Harvest Moon occurs on September 16.

The sample was knit with Manos del Uruguay Alegria (colour 410A - copper) and measures 60” (152.5 cm) along the top, 14.5” (37 cm) at its deepest point, and 80” (203 cm) along the curve of the body.
