Harvest Moon Socks
This sock design was inspired by several beautiful stitch patterns from the book ‘Japanese Knitting Stitch Bible’ - 260 Exquisite Patterns by Hitomi Shida, translated by Gayle Roehm.
I love this book - the patterns contained within it’s pages of are simply beautiful, and they have really sparked my creativity, hence, this new sock design.
If you are lucky enough to have a copy of this book - you will notice that the patterns that inspired me are #222 for the cuff and #98 for the main body of the sock.
This sock pattern features a top-down construction, with gusset and heel flap, plus a wedge toe for a more comfortable fit. The leg, heel and foot length is adjustable - experienced sock knitters will easily be able to create a bespoke fitting sock; using my pattern as a ‘recipe’ or blueprint :)
The suggested gauge is 9 stitches per 2.5 cm using stocking stitch to fit a 20 cm / 8” foot circumference.
The pattern has been written for a UK 3-4 shoe size.
The cuff, and main pattern of the sock, features simple cables and lace stitches to achieve a beautiful result - a variation of the stitches used in the original charts by Hitomi Shida.
The pattern itself is comprised of both charted and written instructions - which I hope will inspire you to knit a pair of your own ‘Harvest Moon Socks’ using a 100g (410m) of your favourite sock yarn.
To produce the best stitch definition, I suggest using a yarn with a 75/25 mix in a plain or slightly variegated tonal yarn.
I hope you will enjoy knitting my latest FREE sock design :)
Don’t forget to post pictures of your projects - I love seeing your knitted projects <3
Happy Knitting :)

Errata 20.08.18: Gusset section - after picking up stitches around heel flap, stitch count should read 83 stitches :)
