Creating Hawaiian Kapa, or barkcloth, truly is an art form. Kapa makers take the bark of paper mulberry, process it into a fine cloth then painstakingly decorate the fiber using natural dyes and hand carved wooden stamps with intricate designs. Hawaiian Kapa Socks honors these kapa makers for their dedication to this ancient and beautiful art form.

Available in Medium and Large width, this colorwork pattern uses 2 fingering weight yarns on 2 circular needles in a charted pattern. Suitable for intermediate sock knitters familiar with sock construction and colorwork/stranded techniques.

  • Needles: Two circular 2.75mm needles or whichever size to achieve gauge. (I used 2 - 16” circulars)

  • Yarn for Medium: One 50 gram ball of fingering weight yarn in a Main Color, and one 50 gram ball in Contrast Color.

  • Yarn for Large: Two 50 gram balls of MC, one 50 gram ball in CC.
