Hawkeye
This hat was originally created for someone who wanted stripes with maybe a little texture. This hat combines stockinette, garter and some lines of color.
Brooklyn Tweed Shelter, 100% Targhee-Columbia Wool, 140 yards per 50 g skein
1 (1, 2) skein(s) in Main Color (MC), 1 (1, 1) partial skein in Contrast Color (CC), or assorted CC’s; each stripe uses less than 8 feet of yarn when knit at gauge.
Shown in Newsprint with Snowbound + Haystack / 2x2 tubular cast on and top loop, and
Sweatshirt with Embers / 1x1 tubular cast on and I-cord tip.
Needles - Gauge needle and needles 2 and 4 sizes smaller. The smallest needle is only needed for the Tubular Cast on. Samples were knit with US3, 5 +7 32 inch circular needles in the magic-loop style.
Use 16 inch circulars or DPNs for the ribbings and 16 (24, 24) inch circulars and DPNs for the hat body if you don’t use the magic loop method.
Stitch Markers, 1 each for the beginning of the round and end of garter panel, 3 for top shaping.
Smooth Cotton Waste Yarn and Crochet Hook, size C, D or E, for tubular cast on only.
Extra Needle or Cable Needle, for Tubular 2x2 rib only
Gauge - 20 stitches and 30 rounds = 4 inches in stockinette with largest needle.
Finished Sizes, laid flat : 18 (20, 22) inches around and 9 (9 1/2, 9 1/2) inches deep.
Shown in Medium on average to large adult heads. Fits with approximately 2 inches of negative ease.
