Hayden
My “Personal Story” is featured in the Spring issue of “Spin Off” magazine as part of a contest sponsored by Schacht Spindle Co. This cowl was created for that event.
Hayden was designed to showcase handspun yarns, but will also work beautifully using commercial, fingering weight yarn. The ribbed sections of the handspun sample in the Schacht photos are made using 3-ply worsted-spun wool, while the stranded portion is worked in 2 ply. Since all plies were spun the same, the 2 ply is slightly smaller in diameter than the 3 ply. Using the 2 ply for color work helps even out the thickness across the entire work.
A second sample was made using Brooklyn Tweed Loft, 2 skeins MC, 1 skein CC for the smaller size (with plenty of the second skein of MC left to make a hat or other item).
This pattern is worked in the round and requires knitting knowledge, including knit/purl, stranded knitting, locked floats, reading charts, and finishing.
