In Finding Meara by Lara Schiffbauer, Arden gives Hazel an owl pendant in the woods. This fabulous fantasy thriller and that scene inspired this shawl. The book can be downloaded as an eBook at amazon.com. And if you download the book, the answer to following question can be used as a coupon to get the pattern for FREE: To what land does Hazel travel and meet Odus? The answer has no capitalization.

This shawl features owl panels with leaves/feathers on the body and a ruffle leaf border. There are optional beads in the owls’ eyes and on the border.

Pattern was test knitted.

Yarn: about 700 yards of lace weight yarn. Sample was knit with Gloss Lace yarn by Knit Picks.

Needles: US 3. I used a 29” circular. Use whatever size gets the lacy effect that you like.

Notions: stitch markers, darning needle, blocking materials, small crochet hook for placing beads (No. 10 or whatever fits through your beads), about 200 size 6/0 beads

Skills used in this pattern: basic increases and decreases, cabling, lace, knitted cast on, beading with crochet hook, blocking
