This shawl starts by knitting in the round from the centre back. Wings are then added. Finally a bottom border is knitted on. There is no seaming involved. The lace pattern is simple, to showcase beautiful handpainted yarn (in this case from Elvincraft).

The pattern has detailed written instructions and several charts - there are no written versions of the charts.

Materials
Approximately 875 yards/ 800m of lace weight yarn. I used approximately 850 yards/ 780m of Elvincraft’s Blue-faced Leicester Lace (800m/100g). Other yarn weights can also be used, but you may need more. Others have found that they need a little more that 100g of yarn to complete the pattern, so make sure you have enough, or can improvise for the bind-off if you run short!; 3.5mm (US 4) circular needle - or size required to obtain a suitably lacy and drapy fabric with your yarn (and a set of dpns if you prefer for the centre of the circle); 8 stitchmarkers; Tapestry needle for weaving in ends.

Tension (gauge): Approximately 2⅝“/6.5cm to 16 stitches and 2⅛”/5.5cm to 16 rows in branching pattern. Tension is not in any way critical for this pattern, but this gives you some idea of whether your shawl will end up a similar size to mine. Also, if your tension is very different, you may use significantly more or less yarn.

Size: Approximately 73”/185cm tip-to-tip and 31”/80cm deep. The shawl can also be made wider if desired – notes on this modification are provided.

Skills required: Various lace stitches (all explained), centre cast-on (tutorial links provided), knitting in the round, picking up stitches.

Skills rating: Intermediate - Experienced

The pattern has been test knit and checked for errors by four lovely test knitters, whose help I gratefully acknowledge.
