The Hazy Stripe Sweater is a slightly oversized, drop-shoulder sweater. It’s knit top down, flat and then in the round. Two fingering weight strands are held throughout so that the stripes can be marled with the main color. This sweater also features a split hem in 1x1 rib that starts somewhere slightly below the natural waist, making this sweater a bit cropped (though you can knit the sweater to whatever length is comfortable). The hems and sleeve cuffs are all bound off using a sewn bind-off in the same contrast color used for the collar.

Ease and Choosing a Size: This garment is intended to be worn with 4-6” or 10-15 cm of positive ease. However, you may size up or down for a more oversized or closer fitting look if that is what you prefer. If you’re choosing to knit a different size than suggested or you’re in between sizes, be sure to check all schematics to ensure a comfortable fit.

Gauge: 21 st x 26 rows // 4x4” // 10x10cm in stockinette knit flat and in the round.
tip: As the stripes in this pattern are placed strategically, row gauge matters just as much as stitch gauge. While stitch gauge should always be prioritized for proper fit, if you care where your stripes land, you’ll want to make sure your row gauge is also correct (particularly while knitting flat).

Suggested Needles:
body: US 7 // 4.5 mm circular needles
hem ribbing: US 6 // 4.0mm circular needles cuff and collar ribbing: US 5 // 3.75 mm circular needles
sleeves: DPNs if not using magic loop method.

Yarn/Yardage: fingering weight yarn (437yds/400m per 100g) held double, or whatever meets gauge. Yardage given is the total required yardage. If you choose to use DK weight yarn held single, you’ll need roughly half of the amount listed.
You may require more yarn if you choose to lengthen your sweater. Schematics are included.
