The original instructions for this “Veil, Knitted in an Open Diamond Pattern, with Vine Leaf Pattern Border” recommend a very fine wool lace yarn and 000 (1.5 mm) needles for a veil with 21 scallops along the bottom. Like many Weldon’s patterns, this project can easily be adapted for larger needles and other yarns. With the fine kid mohair and silk yarn suggested here, the veil becomes an ethereal cloudlike head covering that could also be worn as a shoulder warmer or scarf.

Interestingly, the original pattern used only right-slanting decreases for the Vine Leaf border but had mirror-image left- and right-leaning decreases for the diamond motif. I wonder if the veil was constructed by combining pattern structures from two different sources. If so, they were combined very cleverly to flow smoothly from one pattern to the other. I found two errors in the original instructions and have corrected them here.
