I have loved designing this cute Valentine’s Mosaic afghan pattern. Valentine’s Day is one of my favorite holidays, and I loved creating the different sections and patterns that remind me of the fun paper valentines we make every year with construction paper and paper doilies.

This pattern is done in overlay mosaic style. If you are new to mosaic crochet, there are many wonderful tutorials on YouTube that can help you familiarize yourself with the technique. Any confident advanced beginner to intermediate crochet enthusiast can pick this up quickly! The basic stitches required are chain, slip stitches, single and double crochets.

This afghan can be made to any size you want, but the pattern includes instructions for a starting count for a blanket that is approximately 36”x54”, or for 48”x60ish“. Of course, these sizes can easily be adjusted to any width because of the repetitive patterns.

The pattern is a downloadable PDF file containing several pages of detailed written instructions, pictures, and charts that outline the process, as well as some links to tutorials that are very helpful to learn the overlay mosaic technique. This pattern includes 11 different charts/designs that are used in the blanket, laid out in a particular order. They can be adjusted however you’d like to make it your very own, though!

Between 2400-3000 yards of DK weight yarn (approximately 1200-1500 yards of each color) were used for the 36”x54” size. If you choose to add a border or make a different length, you can adjust yarn amount needed.
