Heart and Soul began as a special tribute to my best friend. I first created the shawl version as a collaboration with Less Traveled Yarn and Woodsy and Wild.

While I love a good shawl, I know not everyone does or feels like they are appropriate for their own wardrobe, so I thought I would share the Heart and Soul love and translate it into an approachable cowl.

Last year when I came up with Heart and Soul I was missing the comfort and company of others, especially my best friend, Stephanie. Heart and Soul is based on memories of us playing the piano and singing at her house when we were little. I did not play the piano (I took lessons, but I am horrendous…) so she did and we just sang whatever she was practicing at the moment. Her house and family have always been like a home to me and when I was craving that comfort throughout this pandemic, this design just sort of unfolded and wrapped me up.

Heart and Soul is a top down, cowl, knit in the round. There are some pretty eyelets and just a little bit of lace to break up its overall garter texture. Baby Suri Alpaca and a fingering weight yarn are held together throughout the entire knit.

This cowl is knit in the round from the top edge to the bottom.
