Heart of Winter is a gently heart shaped shawl which begins as triangle with an unusual spine and subtle texture stitch in the body, then evolves into a crescent shape of decadent lace, with optional purl columns and beads for the true lace addict.

It was inspired by a stitch pattern by Naomi Parkhurst of Gannet Designs, who has magically encoded the word ‘frost’ into the lace. This combined perfectly with travelling through the Celtic lands during a particularly unyielding winter, while reading the old myths and legends.

  • Adaptable to any yardage of lace to fingering weight yarn. Please adjust needle size to suit your yarn.
  • Lace is worked on the RS only. Purl columns can be worked on both sides, or on the RS only.
  • Can be worked entirely from written pattern, or charts with some notes.
  • Stitches required are knit, purl, yarn over, a left and a right leaning decrease, central double decrease (or s2kp), kyok, and 3 into 3 or Estonian star.
