Heartbreaker Convertible Mittens
I designed these mittens for my nephew for Valentine’s Day, compromising between the freedom of fingerless gloves he wanted and the warmth of mittens with the addition of a mitten flap. I’m a fan of this option too as sometimes you need to use your hands (like for your phone) but it’s too cold in winter to take your gloves off entirely. Of course you could choose to leave the flap off entirely. Up to you!
This pattern is knit flat and then seamed up the side before picking up stitches to create the mitten flap.
Colorwork is simple and you only need small amounts for the contrast yarns so leftover skeins or mini skeins are perfect for this. And any fingering or sock yarn will work perfectly.
I used needles sized US 1 and 2 but try use whatever size gets you to gauge.
