The original incarnation of this pattern was in 2010 but the pattern got lost in the memory of a now defunct program on an even more decrepit computer.

I managed to find a hard copy when I moved recently so I immediately rewrote it with a different cast on technique - specifically, the Figure 8 cast on.

Youtube has many videos covering the Figure 8 cast on, so the pattern only describes how to get to a beginning rib row from that cast on.

The heart shapes are created by a fake thrum, the result of carrying the chunky yarn in back of the worsted weight yarn.

I have recommended two very different chunky yarns for the fake thrums.

• The James C. Brett Amazon Super Chunky is the ideal weight at 9.5 s x 13 r = 4” on 10mm needles. see third photo
• The Diamond Luxury Ecstasy is heavy enough that, with a little patience, you could separate the two plies and have a yarn that is the right weight. Leaving it whole makes for a very warm hat!
