There is something magical about the sugaring season in New England: the sweet fragrant smell of sap boiling, the tapping of trees in the sugarbush and the sound of footsteps in the snow. You spend a lot of time outside during a time of year when it tends to be cold and wet. It is no surprise that old time farmers from the past wore wool jackets and overalls to keep warm, dry and comfortable during this transitional time of season from winter to spring. Wool has the ability to keep us warm, dry, and cool when we start to move around, walking from tree to tree, setting the taps and checking the buckets. Bloom Woolen Yarns’ Hearth is the perfect companion to this pattern with its rustic feel and robust weight, it’s almost as if it were made for time spent in the sugarbush. A hat made from Hearth is exactly the type of hat aNew England sugarmaker wants. The Hearth Sugaring Hat is an homage to my favorite time of year, when the bitter cold and the sweetness are knitted together with a deep appreciation for the sugar maples and their gift.
