This pattern is available for free.

Simple blanket design, using the HHDC stitch. You could use the HDC stitch in its place, if so desired.
I used “I Love This Yarn” from Hobby Lobby; you can use any #4 worsted weight yarn; just note there may be slight size variations.
The flowers, hearts and letters appliques are optional.
Easy enough for a beginner to tackle and complete.
I used a 6.0mm hook for the blanket portion and then a 5.0mm hook for the appliques.
