Heartwood Hat
The Heartwood Hat is a deeply-textured & engaging knit, entwined with cables which trace their path from the brim into a ring of knotted hearts, and up into a flowerlike crown. Two sizes are included, each requiring a single skein of DK-weight yarn. The coordinating Heartwood Cowl is available separately, and uses fingering-weight yarn for the perfect balance of drape and squish.
Skills & Techniques:
Long Tail Cast On (optional), working in the round, working 2-over-2 cables and a few six-stitch cables, and working decreases.
Materials Needed:
1 skein of Happy Hank Co Classy DK (100% superwash merino; 218yds/200m per 100g skein), or 167 (200)yds/153 (183)m of DK-weight yarn. Sample colourway: ‘Soba’. For a similar effect to the sample, choose a smooth, multi-plied, worsted-spun yarn.
You will also need 1 end-of-round marker, 4 (5) additional markers (optional), a cable needle, and a needle for weaving in the ends.
Finished Measurements:
Relaxed after blocking, unstretched: 15 (18)”/38 (46)cm brim circumference, and 8.5”/21.5cm length from cast-on to crown.
To fit 18-20 (21–23)”/46-51 (53.5-58.5)cm head circumference. Shown in larger size on my 22”/56cm head.
Charts and written instructions are both provided in full.
