In March, my good friend Heather told me she had lost her crojo (and I had a little as well). She said she didn’t feel like making hats, but wasn’t sure what to make. She wanted a bag (or beach bag) of some sort, so I got to work. It took me a while to get back into the swing of things as well, but am so glad I did! I knew I wanted to create something with a lot of texture, so that is how Heather’s Tote came to be!

For this project, you will need:

• Yarn & Hooks:
Tote #1 (Cream, aqua, coral, fuchsia, yellow color scheme with long handle):
Bernat Maker Home Dec in Cream, Aqua and Gold (Bulky #5)
Bernat Maker Fashion in Gray (Bulky #5)
Schachenmayr Journey in 33 – Kamelie & 36 – Fuschia (Medium #4)
I wouldn’t normally suggest mixing yarn weights, but couldn’t find a fuschia or coral color locally in a bulky. For this project, I feel it worked out just fine and added more texture.
This tote uses a combined total of approx. 660 yds
Hooks used: Base & Body --> 7.0mm & Row 29--> J/6.0mm

Tote #2 (Red, yellow, green, blue, purple color scheme with short handle):
Caron Cotton Cakes in Calico Flowers (Medium #4)
Approx. yardage – 410 yds (2 skiens)
Hooks used: Base & Body --> H/5.0mm & Row 29--> G/4.0mm

• Optional: Natural Wooden Rings (2) – 5.6cm (2-2/8”) – I ordered mine on Amazon.ca if making the long handle

• Darning Needle (to weave in ends)

Finished tote size:
Tote #1: 10-1/2” wide (when laying flat) x 9-1/2” tall
Tote #2: 13-1/2” wide (when laying flat) x 11-1/2” tall

Experience Level: Advanced Beginner
I have created a short video tutorial to help clarify instructions on a trickier row, as well as a couple of images to help with stitch placement. If you are familiar with front post, back post and puff stitches, you will do just fine!

As always, you are free to sell and gift your finished product as much as you’d like, but please do not copy, rewrite, or resell my pattern.

Because this is a digital file, there will be no refunds given. BUT I am more than happy to help you succeed with this pattern, so please contact me if you run into trouble! :)
