Heavenly Hem-top Socks
Don’t worry-they stay up just fine! Hem tops are great if you’d rather avoid ribbing. They hug a little bit less tightly than ribbing which is great for people who need to avoid constricting the blood flow. They are very comfy for sleeping. The secret to making them stay up is to knit them to a length that stays below the flare of the calf muscle and to fit them perfectly. The firm knitted fabric that we typically choose for socks is also helpful. This style is one of my personal favorites because it is fast and easy to knit, good looking and comfortable to wear. The mossy green sock is the fairisle hem top sock presented next in the book. 2 gauges are given: 5 sts/7 rows/“ and 6 sts/8 rows/”. Both are workable on mid-gauge machines. The first may be used on bulkies. Use #4 yarn for the first and #3 for the second. Sizes from baby size 1 to men size 16 in US shoe sizing.
