Hebrides Hat is an ideal way to practice, or learn, stranded knitting: a just right pattern suitable for adventurous beginning or intermediate knitters. The compact motifs make this a quick and easy hat to knit. Green Mountain Spinnery Mountain Mohair yarn is featured in this model. “Bloomy” wool or blended wool & mohair yarns, processed minimally, are a good fit for this project.

NOTA BENE: Yarn amounts are generous. The GMS sks are 140 yards each. You will use 70 - 90 yds each of a full skein for the two main colors, and less than half sks (40 - 50 yds) for the two secondary colors. If you start with full skeins of each color you will have adequate yardage for a second hat, matching wristers, or adding earflaps to the first hat. Stripe the lining cuff to maximum use of your yarn. To size the hat for youngsters, dial down a needle size. Do test your gauge.
