Hebrides Hood is an oversized hood knitted in Half Fisherman’s rib, perfect for adding extra warmth to any outfit. The oversized fit brings a fashionable, modern look to a classic and versatile accessory.

First the top is worked back and forth. Stitches are then picked up along the top section, and all stitches are worked back and forth with increases and decreases incorporated to provide shaping. A couple of rounds of ribbing are then worked before binding off with the Italian bind-off technique. The front edge is then worked by picking up stitches and working in ribbing before the edge is folded over and bound off.

One size

Dimensions:
Neck width 30.5 cm flat; length from crown to bottom edge 38 cm

Gauge:
15 sts x 32 rows in Half Fisherman’s rib (stitched in the row below) on 4.5mm needles = 10 x 10 cm after blocking.

Nb) Please note that 32 rows in Half Fisherman’s rib stitch are counted as 16 knit stitches. It can be easier to count your stitches on the wrong side of your work when working this stitch.

Take care not to overstretch your hood whilst it is wet as this can cause the Half Fisherman’s rib stitch to grow irreversibly; the growth amount may vary depending on the yarn used. It is recommended to gently steam block this hood.

Needles:
Circular needles: 4.5mm (40-60 cm)

150g Heavy Merino by Knitting for Olive (50g = 125m) held together with 50g Soft Silk Mohair by Knitting for Olive (25g = 225m)
