Hedgehog with Hoglet
With this design, the adult hedgehog’s body has an internal pocket which opens to reveal the baby hoglet inside!
Newborn hoglets are born without any quills and then soft cream quills appear through their skin a few hours later… whether or not to add any quills to your hoglet is therefore entirely your choice.
This pattern is 17 pages long and includes the instructions for both the adult hedgehog, her baby hoglet and a caterpillar. It contains loads of photos to help you every step of the way and is written in English, using American crochet terms.
You will need:
Yarn of your choice. Yarn weight doesn’t really matter - the size of your project will simply turn out bigger or smaller! I used aran weight yarn (equivalent to light worsted weight) and my finished adult hedgehog measures approximately 10cm tall and 17cm long.
You will need the following colours:
Adult’s Body Colour - I used beige (approx. 78m)
Adult’s Quills Colour - I used dark brown (approx. 74m)
Nose Colour - I used black (approx. 1m)
Hoglet’s Body Colour - I used pink (approx.15m)
Hoglet’s Quills Colour - I used cream (approx. 6m)
This step is optional as newborn hoglets don’t have any quills for a few hours!
Caterpillar Colour - I used pale green (approx. 4m)
Please note - The amount of yarn used will vary according to yarn weight, hook size and stitch tension so these measurements are only a rough guide.
A suitable size hook for the yarn you have chosen - I used a 4mm hook.
Toy stuffing.
Black finer yarn or embroidery thread for adding the facial details to the hoglet and caterpillar.
A pair of 9mm black eyes.
A small button for fastening the hedgehog’s body.
Other tools you will need are a tapestry needle, some scissors and a stitch marker. You will also need a needle and thread for attaching the button.
You are welcome to sell the items that you make using this pattern, but please do not sell / share the pattern itself. Feel free to contact me with any questions as I am more than happy to help. Thank you.
