This headband uses fingering weight yarn held doubled to produce a warm fabric to keep the ears warm alone or worn under a hat on a very cold day. The band is worked flat and fastens at the back with a button.

The crochet hook is needed only to make a crochet chain to form a button loop. If you prefer, you could use a short plaited or twisted length of yarn, or some other means of making a button loop (or you could work a buttonhole into the band itself although instructions are not provided for this).

The band is meant to fit an average woman’s head with circumference approximately 22”. The length of the band can be easily lengthened or shortened to fit a larger or smaller head.

The instructions are fully written only (no charts).

Achieving pattern tension is not vital as the length of the band is adjustable to fit your head. As written, tension is 5sts/8rows per inch using fingering yarn held double. You could also use aran or worsted weight yarn as a single strand if you can achieve a similar tension.

You will need to be able to:- work left and right cables (with or without cable needle), work increases and decreases (making 4 sts from 1, and working 4 sts together), work a crochet chain or find alternative means of making button loop.
