Helen's Garden Blanket
Named in honor of my mother, Helen, a passionate gardener, this blanket is designed to reflect the beauty and variety found in a well-tended garden. Helen’s Garden Blanket is a stitch sampler, perfect for adventurous beginners looking to expand their crochet skills. With 15 different stitches to explore, this pattern will help you grow as a crocheter, just as a garden flourishes with care.
The pattern offers plenty of texture and will expand as your abilities blossom. As you work through the pattern, your blanket will grow in both size and complexity, symbolizing your progress. The pattern includes instructions in both US and UK crochet terminology and is accompanied by photos and videos to guide you through the more advanced stitches. I am right handed, so instructions and videos as also right handed. I did have a left handed tester, who was experienced enough to manage the pattern. Available only in English, this project promises to be a fun and rewarding challenge. It’s a delightful way to build your crochet skills while creating something beautiful and tactile.
There’s a special focus on texture throughout the design, which some believe may provide comfort to those with Alzheimer’s or Autism, making this blanket not just a fun project, but a potentially meaningful one as well.
The blanket comes in two versions: a Log Cabin version using 4 colours and a slightly more advanced Granny Square version with a choice of 4 or 5 colours. Or, let your creativity flourish by using up scrap yarn and mixing colors as your imagination suggests.
My finished size is 135cm square. If a thicker yarn in used, you will have a bigger blanket. There is the option to end the blanket sooner, for a smaller version.
Happy crocheting, and may your blanket bloom like a beautiful garden!
