Helgesen scarf is knit in garter-stitch lengthwise. One end is pointed, and the other end is slanted. The ends are shaped by German Short Rows and decreases.
If you are unsure about how to do German Short Rows, you may want to watch a video tutorial on YouTube before you cast on.
Sizes: One size
Measurements after blocking:
Length: Circa 135 cm / 53 inches (may stretch with use)
Width: Circa 11 cm /4.3 inches
Tip!
If you have extra yarn and want a longer scarf you may cast on additional stitches when
you start and follow the pattern as written.
Gauge after blocking:
Circa 18 sts on 10 cm / 4 inches garter-stitch.
Suggested needle size:
3.5 mm (US 4) long circular needle – at least 80 cm.
Yarn:
Lang Cashmere Premium 6-Fädig (115 m on 25 g)
Yarn quantity:
Color 1 (gray): 25 g
Color 2 (navy blue): 25 g
Yarn alternatives:
You can use the yarn you want with the appropriate needle size. For example: Lang Cashmere Light on needle 4 mm (US 6). As the scarf will be worn on your neck you should choose a yarn that feels soft on that sensitive part of your body. I suggest cashmere, wool and silk blends, merino, alpaca or yak. Hold the skein next to your neck to check if you have any reaction before you cast on.
Remember that changing the gauge will change the size of the scarf.
