Hellebore
Hellebore is native to much of Europe and is commonly found in early spring and shade gardens in North America as well. The flowers often blossom in winter and early spring and are frost hardy. Hellebore is an amazingly beautiful plant that has been known since the Middle Ages: it was believed that hellebore protected from witchcraft, the evil eye, and evil spirits, which is why it was planted by the front door or in front of the house.
Hellebore is a lace shawl knitted from the top down.
In the beginning, it is a triangle with a central patterned panel and is gradually developing into a semicircle.
The pattern includes charts and all the necessary pattern notes; row-by-row written instructions are not included.
The shawl is available in three sizes:
A (154 rows), B (166 rows) and C (178 rows).
Skill Level: Intermediate
Materials used:
Size 3.25 mm / US 3 circular needles;
Size 2.0 mm crochet hook for binding off;
Stitch markers, tapestry needle, and a waste yarn (optional).
The sample is shown in Aade Lõng Artistic 8/1 Yarn (100% wool; 800 m 875 yds per 100 g).
The sample shawl (size B) required 800 m 875 yds or 100 grams of yarn.
It is strongly recommended to use natural fiber yarn (linen, cotton, wool, and silk) or yarn including a minimum synthetic fiber; yarn weight is about 600–800 m 656 to 875 yds per 100 g.
Gauge is not crucial and can be changed to fit the desired yarn.
Finished measurements and the required yardage will depend on yarn choice, needle size and your individual manner of knitting.
Finished Dimensions: 178 cm 70″ wingspan and 87 cm 34″ deep, relaxed and measured after wet blocking.
