Sizing is flexible but sample shown measures approx:249 cm / 98” along top edge, 427 cm / 168” along bottom edge, 53 cm / 21” deep at center point
Yarn: A variety of fingering and lace weight yarns held double.
Approximately 1828 m / 2000 yds in total (914 m / 1000 yds of each strand) are used for a large shawl. You can mix full balls of yarn with small leftover bits from other projects. The sample shown uses a variety of yarns including Malabrigo Finito, Malabrigo Silkpaca, Orkney Angora St. Magnus DK, and several colors of shetland wool from Jamieson & Smith and Jamieson’s of Shetland. Stephen mixed in a few fluffy bits of Habu yarn as well.
Gauge: 18 sts & 34 rows = 10 cm / 4” over garter stitch on 5 mm / US 8 needles after blocking.
Needles: 5 mm / US 8 circular needle, 100-150 cm (40-60”) length
Always use a needle size that will result in the correct gauge after blocking.
Notions: Tapestry needle
Notes: Stitch counts are not vitally important as the entire shawl is worked in garter stitch. If you are missing a few increase stitches, you can sneak them in at the edge. This shawl is worked from the top down, beginning with a garter tab cast on. Yarn over increases expand the shape to the final picot border.
