Hello Pumpkin Socks
These are knitted from the cuff down, with a simple flowers and pumpkin colourwork motif, a special leaf stitch tops each pumpkin and there is an autumnal stripe running the length of the foot before a repeat of the yellow flowers. They are made with a heel flap and gusset and Kitchener stitch to graft the toe - there is a tutorial for this step on my YouTube Channel if you need it and I will provide you with a QR code and link to my YouTube Channel when you purchase the kit.
The pattern is written for 3 sizes, small (UK 5-6), medium (UK 6-7) and large (UK 7-8), but is very easily customizable to fit your own foot. As you’re knitting from the cuff down, you can slip your work over your foot to check the fit of the leg, heel and foot as you go.
Suitable for beginners with some knitting knowledge (casting on, knitting in the round and joining in the round, stranded colourwork, Kitchener stitch - there is a video tutorial available for this step.
I’ve knitted these socks using a combination of mostly Drops Nord 4ply sock wool, a super soft sock yarn with a 45% alpaca content, lovely to work with, and very reasonably priced as well as easy to get hold of. You will need around 50g of the main colour (Lemongrass), 15g each of Drops Nord in Fog Mix and Drops Alpaca in Light Beige and 10g of Drops Nord in Goldenrod. I have also used a small quantity (around 20g per pair) of Rowan Valley Tween in Hardraw which is discontinued but still available in some yarn shops - at the time of writing (September 2022 Wool Warehouse still have several skeins) but if you can’t get hold of this then Drops Nord in Rust Mix would be a could substitute.
Any 4 ply sock yarn will do, however, the gauge I’ve worked to is 32 stitches to 41 rows using 2.5mm double pointed needles - you can use a circular needle and the magic loop method if you prefer.
I have tried to make this pattern as user friendly as possible, but will provide you with my email address when you download the pattern, if you have any issues at all, do get in touch and I will be happy to help.
Thanks for taking the time to look at my listing, if you have any questions before purchasing, do get in touch.
Happy Knitting! x
