This pattern is available from kulabradesign.com for $6.00.

This crazy-looking hat can be worn on its own or used as a liner for a motorcycle helmet, for example. Since it’s a helmet, it covers forehead, ears, and the back of the neck, protecting your most precious body part from cold wind.

Techniques used: modular, seamless - everything joined as you knit, a few decreases and increases here and there.
Materials:

  • 50g (200m) of fingering-weight yarn: about 40g for the modular part and 10g for the border and crown.
  • circular needles 2.5 - 3mm, or whatever size you need to get the gauge.
  • four stitch markers (2 of them must be locking markers) Gauge: 26sts X 29rows = 10cm in stockinette. Size: measured flat: 55cm across; 30cm from the top to the center front, and 22cm from the top to the center back. The hat fits standard adult head (55-56 circumference), without ease.
