INSTRUCTIONS
The pattern is charted, but also includes complete written directions so the ability to read a chart is not necessary to work this pattern.
Blocking is especially essential for a successful finished project with this pattern. The lace will really open up when blocked and the finished circumference/dimensions will be significantly larger than before blocking.
YARN NOTES
A bulky weight yarn with good stitch definition and little to no halo is recommended. Slight tonals will work, but variegated yarn will distract from the lace pattern.
I see that a few projects have come out a bit large for knitters, so I hope this additional note will help:
Although classified as bulky, DIC Groovy is actually on the lighter side of bulky, so if your selected “bulky” yarn is of the heftier variety, you may want to consider dropping in needle size and carefully checking your gauge (BOTH st and row) so that your hat does not come out too large. If the resultant fabric is then too rigid, I suggest looking for a slightly lighter weight “bulky” yarn choice. You may be surprised at the variation in thickness between various yarns classified as a certain weight - there is lots!
